Wins, Words, and Wonder
Before you set new goals, look back first.
The year is coming to an end.
A new one is right around the corner.
If you are a high achiever, you are probably already thinking about goals.
Planning.
Vision.
What is next.
I love this season.
New Year’s is one of my favorite times of the year.
There is something powerful about a fresh start.
About building on what was.
And moving forward with intention.
But there are a few things most high achievers forget to do when they plan.
And they matter more than you think.
First, focus on your wins.
Start here.
Most of us live in achievement mode.
We focus on the gap between where we are and where we want to be.
And we skip right past how far we have come.
Take time to recount your wins from this last year.
What did you accomplish?
How did you grow?
What did you overcome?
This is not about pride.
It is about encouragement.
It builds confidence.
And it creates momentum you can carry into the next year.
Second, get a word.
Before you plan everything out, partner with God.
My wife and I do this every year.
We each ask the Lord for one word for the year ahead.
Sometimes I cheat and sneak in two.
That word becomes a filter.
It gives direction.
It helps us make decisions.
It becomes a compass for the year.
Those words have guided us again and again.
They matter.
Third, wonder.
Dream.
Think bigger.
Not just about what is next year.
But about what could be possible if you thought differently.
When you think small increases, you usually think about working harder.
Or doing more of the same.
But when you think much bigger, it forces new thinking.
New ideas.
New approaches.
Wonder about the impact you could have.
On your family.
On the people you lead.
On your community.
Let yourself dream again.
This Week’s Challenge
Do your annual planning.
Set goals for the year ahead.
But start with these three things:
Focus on your wins from last year.
Get a word from God for the year ahead.
And take time to wonder and dream bigger than you ever have before.
Do that, and you will step into the new year with clarity, confidence, and momentum.
Now let’s go win the week!
