The Table You Didn't Plan to Sit At
Some of the most important moments in your life won't be on your calendar.
You won't plan them.
You won't prepare for them.
You won't even recognize them while they're happening.
They'll just feel... ordinary.
One of my clients recently shared a story with me that perfectly illustrates this.
She attended an event where people were finding seats before the session began.
Nothing unusual.
She simply sat down at a table.
That decision led to a conversation.
The conversation led to a relationship.
The relationship eventually opened the door to an opportunity she never could have planned for.
Looking back, it was obvious.
God had been orchestrating the entire thing.
But in the moment?
It just felt like choosing a place to sit.
I love how often God works that way.
We expect Him to show up in burning bushes and mountaintop moments.
Sometimes He does.
But more often, He shows up through ordinary conversations.
A coworker asks a question.
A friend makes an introduction.
Someone invites you to coffee.
You sit next to the "right" person.
Except it wasn't luck.
It was providence.
I've experienced this more times than I can count.
Some of the biggest opportunities in my life started with conversations I almost didn't have.
A meeting I almost skipped.
A phone call I almost ignored.
A simple introduction that didn't seem important at the time.
If I had known how significant those moments would become, I probably would have treated them differently.
But maybe that's exactly the point.
God doesn't ask us to recognize every divine appointment.
He simply asks us to be faithful wherever we are.
Colossians reminds us:
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord."
Whatever you do.
Not just the big moments.
The ordinary ones too.
Because you never know which ordinary moment God is about to make extraordinary.
That's why I try to stay present.
When I'm with someone, I want to really be with them.
When someone shares their story, I want to listen.
When an unexpected interruption shows up, I try not to immediately label it as an inconvenience.
Because I've learned something.
Many of God's appointments arrive disguised as interruptions.
The conversation you almost rushed through...
The meeting that ran long...
The invitation you almost declined...
The stranger you almost walked past...
Those moments may matter far more than you realize.
We spend so much time asking God to open doors.
Sometimes He's already opened one.
It's the person sitting across from you.
This Week's Challenge
This week, approach every conversation with a little more curiosity.
Slow down.
Listen well.
Ask one more question than you normally would.
And before you walk into a meeting, a coffee shop, church, or even the grocery store, pray this simple prayer:
"Lord, help me see the people You want me to see today."
You never know.
The conversation you almost overlook could become one of the defining moments of your life.
