How to Live Your Priorities
Are you actually living your priorities?
Most high achievers have more to do than there is time to do it.
The list is long.
The responsibilities are heavy.
And every item feels important.
So the days feel full.
You are moving.
You are working hard.
You are accomplishing things.
But your to do list never seems to shrink.
You wake up the next day and there is a whole new pile waiting for you.
It can feel frustrating.
It can feel overwhelming.
And sometimes you wonder if you are even making progress.
If that sounds familiar, here is the question to consider:
Are you living your priorities?
If you are going to be busy, you might as well be busy doing the right things.
The things that matter most.
The things that bring real impact.
Most people have priorities in their mind.
But they have never taken the time to write them down.
Or define what winning actually looks like in those areas.
Stephen Covey taught this brilliantly in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
He called it roles and goals.
Sit down.
Write out the roles you carry.
All of them.
Spouse.
Parent.
Leader.
Founder.
Pastor.
Coach.
Friend.
Mentor.
You know your list.
Seeing them on paper is powerful.
It makes sense of why you feel overwhelmed.
And it shows how meaningful your life really is.
Then take the next step.
Define what winning looks like in each role.
What is the goal of your marriage?
What is your responsibility in it?
What does winning look like as a parent?
As a leader?
As a business owner?
Most people have never asked themselves these questions.
But high achievers love to win.
And you cannot win a game if you do not know the rules.
It is like playing a board game for the first time.
Everyone else knows how to play.
You do not.
And if you are competitive, that is torture.
Because you cannot win a game you do not understand.
You need to know the goal.
You need the rules.
You need the strategy.
Once you know the game, you give yourself a real chance to win.
That is what we are doing with your life.
You clarify the game.
You define what winning looks like.
And then you live intentionally toward it.
Not reactively.
Not just responding to everyone else’s urgency.
This Week’s Challenge
Write out your roles and responsibilities.
Every single one.
Then ask,
“What does winning look like here?”
“What is the goal in this part of my life?”
And if you want the bonus round, do this:
Plan your week.
Choose one thing in each role that would move the needle the most.
One high leverage action.
One thing that would take you closer to winning in that area.
Do that each week, and you will feel full of peace, full of purpose, and full of momentum.
Stack enough of those weeks together and you will become the person you always hoped you would be.
Now let’s go win the week!
