God Moves After You Move

Have you ever noticed that God rarely gives you the entire map?

He usually gives you the next step.

One of my clients recently found herself in a season that felt incredibly uncertain.

She had moved home. Her routine was gone. Her work had slowed down. She felt like she had lost her rhythm and wasn't sure what God wanted her to do next.

Like many believers, she wanted clarity before she acted.

She wanted to know the destination before taking the first step.

But as we talked, something became obvious.

She wasn't standing still because God wasn't speaking.

She was standing still because she was waiting for certainty.

Later in our conversation she shared something almost in passing.

She had organized a seven day backpacking trip through the mountains. Friends from around the country were flying in. She had coordinated the route, the food, the logistics, the safety, and the entire experience.

Then she said something that surprised me.

"I don't even know if I'm a leader."

I laughed.

Because she had completely missed what God had already been doing.

Leadership wasn't waiting somewhere in her future.

She was already leading!

Sometimes we're so focused on what we haven't become that we completely overlook what God is already doing through us.

I think that's true for many of us.

We're waiting for the perfect opportunity.

The perfect job.

The perfect ministry.

The perfect confirmation.

Meanwhile, God is saying, "Look at what's already in your hands."

Throughout Scripture, that's often how God works.

Moses had a staff.

David had a sling.

The disciples had five loaves and two fish.

None of those things looked significant.

Until they were surrendered to God.

Too often we think movement comes after clarity.

But many times, clarity comes after movement.

When Abraham was called, God didn't hand him a detailed itinerary.

He simply said, "Go."

As Abraham walked, God revealed more.

That's still how He works.

I've experienced this over and over in my own life.

Very few of the biggest opportunities I've ever experienced began with certainty.

They began with a small yes.

A phone call.

A conversation.

An application.

A meeting.

A step of obedience that didn't make complete sense at the time.

Looking back, I can clearly see God's fingerprints.

But in the moment?

I was simply trying to take the next faithful step.

Maybe that's where you are today.

You're praying for direction.

You're asking God to show you His will.

You're waiting for clarity.

What if He's waiting for your next step?

Not because you've earned His guidance.

But because that's often how He chooses to give it.

You don't need the whole map.

You just need enough faith to take today's step.

God has a remarkable way of meeting people who are moving toward Him.

This Week's Challenge

Ask yourself one simple question:

What's one step I already know God is inviting me to take?

Not the step after that.

Not the five year plan.

Just the next one.

Then take it.

Trust God with everything beyond that.

He has always been much better at writing your story than you are.
